The Baptism of Children

Baptisms are celebrated in St. Mary’s Church, Cockhill every Saturday at 3pm. Baptisms can also be arranged for Star of the Sea, Desertegney. A visiting priest is welcome to celebrate a baptism at a time that suits on any day of the week.

If you have a child for baptism please contact the Parish Office in good time to arrange the ceremony. You will be asked to call to the office to fill in a baptism card. This card will be used for the registration of the child’s baptism in our Parish Records.

Church law requires at least one sponsor/godparent for Baptism, but there may be two, one of each sex.A sponsor must be a baptised Catholic and should be aged 16 years or over (unless the parish priest considers that there is a just reason for an exception to be made). A sponsor must have been confirmed and have received the blessed Eucharist. You are asked to bring a Baptism Candle and a white bib with a cross for use during the Ceremony.
